Part 1
John McLean Argue was the son of H.T. Argue, lumberman. His mother’s name was Conolly. He got into the lumber business in the 1930’s. He had three brothers: Henry, Forrest, and Arthur. He went to school in Shawville, and Miss McGregor was one of his teachers. He remembers the fire of 1906 that wiped out the town. “It was a bad fire. It wiped out the town.” He went out west a few times to work on the harvest.
Part 2
He attended the Mike Murphy murder trial, and remembers the victims, Harry Howes and Bill Dale. “Some people thought that they shouldn’t have been down there. They went down to serenade Mike Murphy and he objected to them.”
His father’s first lumberyard was by the station, and his own was across the railway tracks.
