Fort-Coulonge Flooding, May 1972

In the spring of 1972, the Coulonge River in Fort Coulonge experienced significant flooding, causing water levels to rise dangerously close to the Pont Blanc and threatening the historic Pont Rouge undergoing restoration. The flood, exacerbated by a large log jam and melting snow and ice, posed serious challenges to the town, leading to efforts by engineers and a civil protection committee to manage the situation.
